Thank you for purchasing KindWords. The Disc Company continually strives to develop the best possible software.  We value your comments and suggest you call our technical support department should you have any problems or suggestion to improve KindWords.  You can call our distributor listed on your warranty card.

  5. We will distribute upgrades to registered users containing improvements and new features as they come available. Therefore we ask you to send us the enclosed Warranty card.

  7. Printing With SuperFonts
  8.  
  9. KindWords comes with the unique SuperFonts feature that makes any dot-matrix printer output high quality fonts -- four times as many dots per character as the standard Amiga fonts.  The tradeoff is speed.  For printers that have a nice Final Print font, we recommend you use the Final Printing option from the Print requester.  This mode will use the printer's internal final font for fast printing and use SuperFonts for Italics, Symbols, etc..  This combination will always give you the best printout with the best printing speed.

  11. SuperDrivers

  13. In order to use SuperFonts, KindWords uses its own drivers in conjunction with the Amiga printer drivers.  KindWords has drivers for most of the Workbench supported printers except for the following ones:

  15. Non graphic printers such as the Diablo 630
  16. Okidata 92
  17. Laserjet, Laserjet+ and compatibles
  18. Deskjet
  19.  
  20. In the future KindWords will support many more printers with SuperFonts.
  21.  
  22. Workbench
  23.  
  24. KindWords uses the system clipboard to save the cut or copied text or graphics. Therefore you must not write-protect the current Workbench.

  26. If you decide to use another Workbench with KindWords, copy the KindWords icon, fonts drawer, and SuperDrivers drawer to the other Workbench disk.

  28. Preferences

  30. KindWords now uses the 1.3 Gamma Printer Drivers and Preferences.  Printing quality and speed is greatly improved.  When the final 1.3 drivers are available, copy them to your KindWords disk.

  32. Amiga Printer Problems
  33.  
  34. The following problems are a result of errors in the Amiga printer drivers.  We are working with Commodore to fix those problems in the near future.  However, until then we suggest some work-around situations to better use your printer.

  36. Hewlett-Packard Laserjet and Laserjet+:

  38. There are a few problems with printing SuperFonts with Laser Printers.  We suggest you use the Laser Printers own internal font for printing.

  40. The Amiga drivers for the Laserjet do not support font styles such as boldface and italics.

  42. After printing the document an extra blank sheet of paper is printed.

  44. Okimate 20

  46. Printing graphics with a color ribbon can cause KindWords to crash.  We suggest you use a black ribbon to get better results.  Save your document before printing.

  48. When Using the EpsonX Printer Driver

  50. Some printer models that use the EpsonX Driver do not have a final quality print mode, such as the Star Gemini 10-X.  Use the EpsonX-No_NLQ driver in Preferences if your printer does not have a final quality print mode.

  52. When Using the Okidata 293i and Okidata 293i.QUAD Driver

  54. When using an Okidata printer on your Amiga make sure you are using the IBM interface module that comes with your printer.

We have included two Okidata 293 drivers in Preferences.  The Okidata 293i.QUAD driver will print SuperFonts in a higher resolution but will print very slow.  If speed is more important to you, use the Okidata 293i driver instead of the Okidata 293i.QUAD driver.  These drivers also work with the Okidata 292 model.

  58. When Using the Xerox 4020 Driver

  60. The Xerox 4020 has a limitation of only 16 downloadable characters per line of text.  For best results we suggest you use only Roman 12 and print in Final Quality.

  62. Inserted Graphics

  64. When you insert graphics in your documents, KindWords adds some invisible space around the graphic in order to adjust each printer's resolution. That space will actually not be printed.  Use the Visible Format Markers option from the Screen options requester in the Extra menu to better see the division in actual space.

  66. If you stretch your graphic higher than a single page, the graphic will be printed over two pages and your entire document will be not correctly paginated.

  68. If you stretch a graphic wider than the printer's carriage, the graphic will be printed cropped on the right edge.

  70. Df2: Disk Drive

  72. If you own an Amiga 2000 with only one internal drive and one external drive, KindWords will replace the Df1: button by Df2: in the Open, Insert and Save requesters.
